Wild Rose High School | Class of 2024 | Casey
Waaaaaaay back in 2010, I got serious about photography by doing a 365 day self-portrait challenge AND all of my friends senior pictures in the same summer before I headed off to college. (You can read about that in my business story here!) Hard to believe I’m now photographing the Class of 2024! Casey, a baseball player for Wild Rose High School, taught me that passion for the things you love doesn’t leave you once you reach a certain milestone.
Doing senior pictures always takes me back to my days running around Burlington with nothing but my camera and a dream in my back pocket. The days before social media was king and algorithms ruled the world (or at least mine). My photography friends and I all shared our photos on Flickr and built a community of teenage photographers from all around the country — connections like that seem few and far in between on Instagram and Facebook these days. Sometimes I yearn for those early days of social media, when sharing was purely based on really wanting to share your work with others and not a marketing strategy of how to get the most eyeballs and clicks and likes on a photo you’re proud of and want to show off.
BUT — that’s a blog post for another day!
Casey’s senior pictures reminded me that senior year is an ending — but also the beginning of the rest of your life. And that’s definitely something worth celebrating. Casey’s love for baseball reminded me of my own passion for photography when I was in high school.
